My #weektoview Tigers Tigers burning bright

DSC02130

Mr G was a cat in his reception year show. 90 kids in animal costume and onesies singing – very cute. He made me laugh (wrongly) by taking off his wired tail and poking it in the air during the bits where I couldn’t see him and popping up in other children’s masks. In this photo he has managed to detach most of his costume, crafty cat.

I am really proud of how well he has adjusted to school. For a wild cat it hasn’t been easy, I can’t believe how they have tamed him and channelled his raging imagination so brilliantly.

Miss L got herself covered in stickers in the last week of term, they both have been working incredibly hard, definitely time for a holiday! Continue reading

Our journey into a dragon’s butt and other adventures…Visit Wales.

DSC01921-001

Visit Wales asked me to go and see what our family could learn there in a weekend. Our trip came in the midst of a chaotic few weeks in March, I had just returned from Tanzania, Mr A was about to go to San Francisco for a week, did we really want to go away again? I think the photo above says it all!

I spent many happy years on family holidays in Harlech. Wales has the perfect mix of everything a child needs for a happy holiday – long sandy beaches, castles full of adventure, beautiful countryside to run wild in and myths and legends galore to fuel those adventures.

Turns out it is amazing what you can learn in Wales in a weekend, and how utterly refreshing a weekend of exploring can be. Fancy a journey into a dragon’s butt? Continue reading

Meet Lucy, one of the inspiring women creating #lastingchange in Africa #iwd2014

DSC01493-001

If Africa could regain just an additional 1% share of global trade, it would earn $70 billion more in exports each year – more than double what it receives in development assistance.

Today I saw first hand that creating #lastingchange in Africa is about investing wisely in women who can take lots of other women with them on their journey to a better world.

Lucy is a woman with a mission. She wants to help others. She is a teacher by profession, like me she fell out of the profession when her husband needed to move with work, they moved from the country, to the city of Dar el Salaam, Tanzania.

She wanted to continue to teach and to further the charitable work she was doing in the country, helping orphans. But she felt lost after the move.

The UN estimates that 70% of the population of Dar es Salaam now live in slums. Continue reading

Fun Family Things to Do in York

Lendal Bridge

When I was little my Mum and Gran took me and my brother to York for the weekend. We thought it was a magical place, my parents had a tiresome fascination with dragging us around churches, purely from an architectural perspective, but I do remember being in awe of York Minster. Continue reading

What Lies Beneath Aruba

DSC00859

Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take ya Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama

Today has had epic proportions, like being in a Beach Boys song while filming an action movie, with a dash of romance.

From facing my deepest fears, to a crazy bus, to a submarine, a dramatic speed boat exit, to tearing away leaving a ship’s Captain waving on the deck and shouting my name, Aruba has it for the most epic day so far on our cruise with Carnival Breeze.

In other words, I pulled and overcame my fear of the deep. Continue reading

IMG_0482Last year we were selected to go on two cruises with Carnival Cruise Lines, and be their funnest family. We had so much fun on board Carnival Sunshine in October, enjoying the ship, the destinations and working with the film crew, and there are now five short funnest family films about cruising as a family, featuring us.

In the last of the five funnest family films from Carnival Sunshine, me and Mr A sing with Seth in the piano bar and fine tune our voice over skills as we look towards our next cruise in the Caribbean… Continue reading

Film One is here and Film Two here. Film Four and Film Five coming soon. There’s a behind the scenes post of the day the film crew appeared. I’ve answered all the questions I was asked about cruises as a family here. Read more about our adventures in Venice and the sailaway party or have a look through our photo album.. I’m feeling so nostalgic looking back, it really was the trip of a lifetime, but not long until we sail on the incredible Carnival Breeze in the Caribbean.

Where would you like to go as a family in the USA?

As we were ploughing through series 3 of Breaking Bad this week I said to Mr A I would love to take the kids to America. Obviously not to see the dark and grim sides of gangsters and meth labs, but to experience the real US.

Since reading Little House on the Prairie I have always had a childlike fascination with the scale and vibrancy of the US. I have only ever been to Boston, but I loved it there. The food in the Italian area we stayed in, the American breakfasts, pancakes and homefries, the skyline from my friend’s roof terrace. Continue reading
